Navassa Island is an uninhabited and about 5 km island in the Caribbean Sea between Haiti and Jamaica. Navassa is a U.S. Territory and it lies 40 miles east of Haiti. Navassa Island is administrated by Fish and Wildlife Service of Department of the Interior of United States of America as a National Wildlife Refuge.

The most pristine and unspoiled in all of the Caribbean are the offshore coral reefs and its deep waters, just because of their remote inaccessibility. This rocky foreland is uninhabited and also lacks fresh water. Surrounding the sea-cliffs impel the visitors to land by the helicopter or to use a ladder from the shore to make landfall.

The holes made by guano miners make it difficult to walk around the island. These days efforts are underway to safeguard the area as marine wildlife preserve. The recent expeditions have discovered more than 15 species of previously unknown plants, lichens, insects and reptiles are unique to the island.
