El Salvador is located in the Central America. It shares its borders with the Guatemala and Honduras. El Salvador is the smallest country in continental America, and is the only Central American country that does not have a Caribbean coastline. San Salvador is the capital city. The highest point in the country is Cerro El Pital at 2,730 meters.
It has 123.6 square miles of water within its borders. There are several small rivers that flow through the El Salvador into the Pacific Ocean, these includes the Torola, Goascoran, Jibao, Paz and the Rio Grande de san Miguel. The only largest river, the Lempa River that flows from the Honduras across El Salvador to the ocean is navigable for commercial traffic. The volcanic craters enclose the lakes; the most significant of them are Lake Ilopango and Lake Coatepque. The lake Guija is El Salvador’s largest natural lake.
The rich forests and craggy mountains of El Salvador make for great hiking. The tropical climate of El Salvador has only two seasons: ‘Verano,’ which is the dry season from November to April, and ‘Invierno,’ which is the wet season from May to October.
People of El Salvador are simple, friendly and tired by the mass tourism. Most of them are really happy to talk or help you out if you are lost. The entire yearly rainfall occurs during the rainy season and at night. The coastal areas are the hottest and the average temperate is 72-90°F throughout the year, the central areas varies dramatically year-round, from 66° F in the coldest months to 100°F in the warmest, and the hilly areas are always cool, with the temperatures averaging 54-73° F.
Visit at the beginning or end of the dry season, and more cultural festivals that take place around these times. From the Christmas through mid-January, and during the first week of August when San Salvador holds its annual festival, is the main holiday period. Semana Santa is a week long festival before Easter.
